Start with current Jira status for today's conditions. A historical incident can teach you how to interpret an update, but cannot tell you whether Jira is working now.
When your team cannot use Jira, compare the failed action with the affected region and feature in the provider notice. Keep your own observation time alongside the provider's publication time.
A worked example: three different clocks
Atlassian's September 3, 2026 US East incident illustrates the distinction:
| Time, UTC | Meaning |
|---|---|
| September 3, 14:52 | Impact began, according to the later postmortem |
| September 3, 15:57 | Investigation update published |
| September 3, 16:15 | Recovery began, reported retrospectively at 16:35 |
| September 3, 17:02 | Incident resolved |
| September 10, 18:15 | Postmortem published |
Atlassian's incident record, checked September 12, now provides information absent from its initial updates. The first public post is therefore not a reliable substitute for the impact start. The reviewed incident brief covers the event itself.
Match the notice to your failed task
Record the action that failed: signing in, opening a board, searching or saving a change. Include the error, time and timezone. Compare that with the provider's stated scope. If you do not know where your site's data is hosted, leave the regional match unconfirmed and ask your administrator.
A matching symptom helps direct an investigation; it does not establish that the same cause affected every user. A useful internal update separates what the provider says from what your team has reproduced.
Why the headline is not the whole story
Atlassian documents that Statuspage's overall status is derived from component states. Incident impact is a separate assessment based on affected components and can be overridden by the publisher. Open the incident details instead of interpreting a color alone. Source: Statuspage status calculations.
Those rules do not establish what Jira's headline displayed during this example. We do not have a contemporaneous screenshot to make that comparison.
Verify recovery in your own workflow
After a recovery notice, repeat the task that failed and record the result. For a write operation, first check whether the earlier attempt succeeded so that a retry does not create duplicate work. Preserve the error if the task still fails, and send the incident link and relevant details privately to your administrator or support.
An illustrative team update might say: The provider has reported recovery. Board loading succeeds in our test, but search is still failing. We are continuing to investigate. Replace those example observations with your actual results.
Read history with its definition in view
Statuspage's component uptime feature counts major and partial outage states, with partial outages weighted at 30%. Degraded performance and maintenance do not reduce that particular uptime percentage. An incident without a qualifying component outage state need not appear in its uptime timeline. These are that feature's rules, not a universal SLA definition. Source: Statuspage historical uptime documentation.
Use Jira incident history alongside the event narrative and your own measurements. Follow Jira provider updates to keep the service on your watch list; configure alert delivery for the channels your plan includes.
